NC Thunder girls get win over Knights at home

The Aberdeen Christian Knights girls and boys made a trip over to Bowdle last Tuesday for a Lake Region Conference high school basketball twinbill. And when it was all said and done the visitors would come up short vs the Thunder girls, but the Knights would win the boys game.

The Thunder girls enjoyed a 10-8 lead during the first quarter and then obtained a 17-14 halftime lead. The Thunder would then go ahead 32-27 with a quarter to play. But the Knights would continue to hang around in the final quarter.

The Thunder did indeed get a little more separation in the final stanza for that final 38-29 verdict.

North Central was led by Amree Vander Vorst with 24 points and she included a trio of treys. Ella Batie added seven points followed by Sydney Bertsch, Katelyn Engelhart, Lyndsey Geier and Kaidence Bulgin with two points each.

The Knights countered with Chloe Bosma's 10 points, followed by Chloe Holt with eight points. Julie Fogerty had seven points and Bailey Hunstad and Payton Skarin each added two points.

The Thunder had 12 baskets that included their treys and added 11 accurate free throws; the Knight, 11 baskets with one of them being a trey. and six successful free throw attempts.

The NC Thunder grabbed 28 rebounds led by Batie with six and the Knights collected 36 boards. North Central had 18 turnovers and Aberdeen Christian 18 as well. But Vander Vorst had five steals.

Now for the Thunder Boys! They dropped a 61-32 decision. The Knights would go ahead 13-6 at the first quarter break and would lead 32-17 at intermission. They then led 52-25 with one quarter remaining and coasted to a win.

The Knights were led by Joey Johnson with 22 points and Brooks Jett scored 14 points. And Konnar Furman had 12 points. Five additional Knights would score. They had 25 accurate baskets that included one trey. They added 10 accurate free throws.

The Thunder were led by Raynor Sprague with 18 points including three treys. Cole Beitelspacher was next with five points, including one trey, followed by Cooper Oxner with his three points on a trey. You may also credit Dawson Walz, Kobe Wherry and Trent Beyers with two points apiece.

The Thunder made 12 accurate baskets including those five treys and added three accurate free throws.

The Thunder had 17 rebounds led by Rucker’s four. AC grabbed 40 rebounds. The Thunder had 18 turnovers and AC 12 miscues.
