Panthers stop Thunder girls in Aberdeen last week

The North Central Thunder girls basketball team met up with Great Plains Lutheran on Tuesday, Feb. 13 in Aberdeen and would sustain 56-35 defeat from the powerful Watertown-based team.

The GPL contingent had got off to an impressive 10-4 first-quarter start and then led 29-18 at the half. They would also lead 46-26 with a quarter to play.

Both teams were led by a 21-point scorer. They would be Amree Vander Vorst for the Thunder and Abby Kjenstad for GPL They each featured three treys and GPL would have one additional trey from Hallie Bauer who totaled five points.

The Panthers would also obtain 15 points from Olivia Holmen, nine points by Esta Cameron and six points from Madeline Prahl.

Meanwhile the Thunder's second highest scorer would become Ella Batie with her eight points. Alaina Dosch and Camryn Witlock each scored two points and Kaidence Bulgin and Katelyn Engelhart a free throw apiece.

The Panthers netted 25 baskets including all their treys and were 2-5 in free throws. The Thunder countered with 12 accurate baskets that featured the trio of treys and were 8-15 in free throw attempts.

The Thunder were able to grab 25 rebounds led by Batie with nine. The Panthers countered with 27 rebounds led by Holmen with five. The Thunder sustained 20 turnovers and the Panthers, 10.
