The Ipswich girls varsity basketball team was defeated 38-25 during a visit to Highmore-Harrold last Tuesday, Feb. 13.
This confrontation evolved into somewhat of a defensive struggle with the hosts leading at respective quarter break 7-2, 22-14 and 34-19. They were led by Jade Baloun with 13 points. Addison McDonald added eight points and Elle Stagg was next with her six points. And three additional Pirates would get into their scorebook that evening.
Ipswich received a balanced scoring effort led by Anna Nierman and Marley Guthmiler with six points each. Karlie Gohl connected on a trey for her three points as did Jalyssa Hutson. Tristan Geditz also scored three points followed by Brianna Geditz and Kaylin Onken with two points apiece.
The hosts made 11 two-point field goals and Ipswich, nine of them. The Pirates added four treys and Ipswich those treys. The hosts were 4-7 in their free throw shooting and Ipswich 1-4.
The Pirates grabbed 35 rebounds and Ipswich 30. The Tigers were led by Guthmiller's nine rebounds, followed by Tristan Geditz with eight. The Tigers committed 23 turnovers and the Pirates 18 miscues. (Eleven of them were Tiger steals led by Nierman and Guthmiller with three thefts each.)
