With Trevor Heinz still unavailable due to his hand injury, Ipswich would end up losing a Region 6B boys high school basketball verdict to Highmore-Harrold last Tuesday in the Tiger Den. The final score, 39-31, would prove to be the largest lead by either school in the entire game.
Ipswich had narrowly led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, but H-H would go ahead 20-16 at intermission and then lead 29-24 with a quarter to play. However Ipswich would stage a little fourth-quarter rally of its own to even the game at 29-29 capped with a Chet Peterson basket.
The visitors would be led by Trake Cowan's 19 points. Next would be Carson Stephenson with his eight points. They then had five points apiece from Aidan Ferens and Altor Ortega who included a crucial three-point basket late in the game. Miles McPeak scored two more points for the Pirates cause.
Ipswich would be led by Jace Konsor with 14 points, followed by Tucker Kadlec and Peterson with seven points each. Kyle Hettich scored two points and Xavier Kadlec a free throw.
Ipswich used 13 baskets all of which were inside the trey arc and added five of 10 free throw attempts. The Pirates countered with 14 deuces and that huge trey plus eight accurate free throw attempts.
Ipswich though somewhat outsized that night was able to collect 37 rebounds led by Tucker Kadlec with 10 boards. But the visitors grabbed 45 rebounds led by Cowan's 15 huge boards for a definite double-double.
Each team sustained 14 turnovers.
Ipswich's seniors were Trevor Heinz, Jace Konsor, Chet Peterson and Xavier Kadlec and will be missed!
