IHS Golfers battle weather at recent meets

On April 18, the Ipswich golfers headed to Miller to golf on a cool and windy day. Wind gusts were up to over 30 miles per hour and the temperatures never really got above the low 40s.

Coach Matt Pollock said the golfers did an excellent job of battling the elements and competing against the other golfers. It was a great opportunity for the golfers to grow mentally.

When everything was tabulated on the girls' side, Mollie Simon placed seventh with a 103. On the boys' side, Chet Peterson finished the day with a score of 77, which earned him first place overall.

The upcoming varsity golf meets, weather permitting, will take place at Faulkton, Bowdle, Aberdeen, and Eureka.

On April 22, the junior varsity and middle school golfers competed at Gettysburg. There were over 70 golfers participating at the tournament. “The most constant variable in the golf season, as it relates to the weather, has been the wind. The wind once again made an appearance in Gettysburg by blowing 20 mph and gusting up to 41 mph. The Ipswich golfers did a nice job of keeping their feet planted on the ground and sending the golf ball in the right direction, most of the time,” said Pollock.

After all the golfers were finished, two golfers from Ipswich placed towards the top of their divisions. Charli Rawden finished second in the junior varsity girls and Ben Hoyle finished second in the middle school boys.
