First Achievement Day

Very Successful Affair

The first Achievement Day held in Ipswich for the members of the 4-H Baby Pork club proved most successful. Seventeen members were on hand with their club pigs at the Ipswich Feed and Sale Barn when the judging was started at 11:00 am., Saturday, August 30.

After the judging was completed all record books were checked up by Elmer Bjerke, government extension agent and prize winners were announced. Judging was done by County Agent Dittmer of Brown County. He also gave a short talk before the gathering telling of the merits of club work and explaining his placings in the show ring. It was his opinion that the animals shown here were far better than any he had judged thus far this year. Many of the animals were so evenly match that the judging was most difficult. The meeting closed with H. E. Beebe taking several pictures of the crowd and also the club members with their leaders, Don Herrick and Joe Clemens.

The following prizes were awarded by the Commercial Club and Lions Club of Ipswich. 1st, Harison Hartzell $5.00; 2nd, Alden Berner, $4.00; 3rd, Billy Herrick, $3.00, 4th, Leo Clemens, $3.00; 5th, Avis Hubbard, $2.00; 6th, Marion Hubbard, $2.00; 7th, Marshall Berner, $2.00; 8th Bobby Childers, $1.00. Donald Stevens, Irene Hodson, Barbara Pemberton, Bob Hartzell, Neal Jones, Wayne Jones, Howard Sandquist, Billy Herrick, Harold Freiberg and Awalt Freiberg each received $1 for showing their animal.
