Sebastian Scherr

Mass of Christian Burial for Sebastian Scherr of Roscoe will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 605 N. Andrew Street, Roscoe, with Fr. Timothy Cone serving as Celebrant.  Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery. 

Sebastian Scherr, 96, was born November 28, 1927, in Strasburg, N.D., to Leonard and Theresa (Reinbold) Scherr. He was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Strasburg where he also attended elementary school. 

In 1943, his parents moved to a farm 7½ miles west of Roscoe. This is where he helped with farming and took over the farm after his dad passed away along with helping his mother raise his siblings.

On June 1, 1954, he married the love of his life, Marian Ehnes, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Roscoe. They were blessed with eight children: Leonard- Mesa, Ariz.; Virgil (Dotty) - Sioux Falls; Neil - Roscoe; Noreen (Dan) Glodt - Hoven; Lori Ann (Bill) Arbach - Hoven; Steven (Kris) - Mina; Loretta (Paul) Binfet - Roscoe; and Carol Ann (Jim) Fonder - Roscoe; along with 26 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Sebastian was a very devout Catholic, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, and loved God, his wife of 70 years, his immediate and extended large family, farming, dancing, playing cards, fishing, and visiting with everyone he met, whether it was in a restaurant or passing on the street.

Sebastian passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his home in Roscoe.  Preceding him in death were his father, Leonard, and mother, Theresa; three brothers, Joe, Leonard and Kasper; three sisters, Rosemary Kocher, Barbara Hoerner and Genevieve Creager; four brothers-in-law, Pete Kocher, Ray Hoerner, Marvin Uhrich and Mark Creager; and two great-grandsons, Paul Riley Binfet and Michael Francis Hoyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be sent to a charity group of Sebastian's choice.  Please send memorials to Sebastian Scherr Memorial, c/o First State Bank, PO Box 227, Roscoe, SD 57471.
