If you shop at Ken's FoodFair in Ipswich you probably have seen Johnathan Kamps. He works part-time there.
When Johnathan was asked what he wanted to do with the rest of his life, his response was immediate, "I want to make people smile and laugh."
Johnathan was born with Tatton-Brown Rahman Syndrome (TBRS), a rare condition that causes various birth defects. People with this syndrome are often taller than usual. They tend to have mild to moderate intellectual disability.
Johnathan's support network of family and friends helped him achieve his dream of bringing joy and laughter to others with his own business selling gifts and novelty items.
Sandy Kamps, Johnathan's mom, said "Only one to three percent of small business owners are owned by people with disabilities and only a small fraction of those people have multiple disabilities and we believe Johnathan is the first in the state of South Dakota and it wasn't easy!"
His application has been accepted to be a vendor at this year's Brown County Fair. Johnathan's "Impressed Store" can be found in the Odde Arena. They will have mugs, tumblers and T-shirts.
Brown County Fair vendors are open Tuesday, Aug. 13 until Sunday, Aug. 18.
