Iowa Youth Gets Jail Sentence for Theft

Clarence Herr of Manley, Iowa is serving a 30 day sentence in Edmunds County jail. Herr got off a freight train at Ipswich Saturday night and came up town to get something to eat. Seeing a load of groceries in Frank Pemberton’s car, he drove away with the auto and parked it by the railroad tracks. He abandoned the car and loaded the groceries on the freight train. Deputy August Schumacher picked Herr up at Roscoe as the freight arrived there.

Stephen Shields and Norman Paine of Minneapolis were also apprehended at Roscoe and brought back to Ipswich. These boys were running away from home. Shields had been picked up at Ipswich a month ago and sent home. The boys were taken before Judge McCarter who reprimanded them and were taken home by Mr. Shields, father of Stephen.
