County 4-Hers earn ribbons at State Fair

Edmunds County 4-H Members exhibited over 80 static exhibits at the 2024 South Dakota State Fair in Huron last week.

There were 30 livestock exhibits representing Edmunds County. They had several members who were awarded top honors in their division, including Senior Maggie Holt-Breeding Beef Reserve Champion Any Other Breed; Senior Charli Rawden-Breeding Beef Reserve Champion Miniature Hereford; and Senior Jillian Fischer-Breeding Sheep Overall Grand Champion Baby Doll Ram, 3rd Overall Supreme Ram, Reserve Champion Baby Doll Ram, and Reserve Champion Baby Doll Ewe.

Several members participated in the Showmanship contests. Maggie Holt received a purple ribbon and placed fifth overall in Senior Beef Showmanship. Jacob Jung received a purple ribbon and placed third overall in Senior Swine Showmanship. Others placing in Beef Showmanship were Sydney Holmes, blue and Charli Rawden, purple. In Sheep Showmanship Brady Kilber received a blue ribbon and Kathryn Kilber received a purple ribbon. Alexis Fischer received a blue ribbon in Meat Goat Showmanship. Dora Bonen received a blue ribbon in Rabbit Showmanship.

There were seven entries in the Breeding Beef Class. Brady Beitelspacher received a purple ribbon for his Simmental Breeding Heifer. Maggie Holt received purple ribbons for her Commercial Breeding Heifer, Angus Breeding Heifer, Chianina Breeding Heifer, and her Any Other Breed Breeding Heifer. Maggie also received Reserve Champion with her Any Other Breed Breeding Heifer. Charli Rawden received two purple ribbons for Mini Hereford Breeding Heifers. She also received Reserve Champion Mini Hereford Breeding Heifer.

Market Beef had two entries. Sydney Holmes received a purple ribbon on her Shorthorn Market Steer and placed first in her class. Wyatt Holmes received a blue ribbon for his Shorthorn Market Steer.

Breeding Sheep had 13 entries. In the Southdown Baby Doll Division, Jillian Fischer received a purple ribbon and Reserve Champion Ram with her Late Spring Ram, a purple ribbon and Reserve Champion Ewe with her Late Spring Ewe, a purple ribbon and 3rd Overall Supreme Ram and Grand Champion Baby Doll Ram with her Yearling Ram, and a purple ribbon on her Yearling Ewe. Also, in the Southdown Baby Doll Division Grant Fischer received a purple ribbon for his Late Spring Ewe and blue ribbons for his Late Spring Ram and his Late Spring Ewe. In the Targhee Division, Brady Kilber received a purple ribbon for his Fall Ewe Lamb and purple ribbons for his Yearling Ewe and his Late Spring Ewe, and Kathryn Kilber received a purple ribbon for her Yearling Ewe and a blue ribbon for her Fall Ewe Lamb. Kathryn Kilber also received a purple ribbon for her Early Spring Ewe in the Any Other Wool Breed Division.

Market Sheep had one entry. Wyatt Holmes received a blue ribbon for his Crossbred Market Ewe.

Breeding Swine had two entries. Jacob Jung received a purple ribbon on his Duroc Breeding Gilt, and a purple ribbon for his Crossbred Breeding Gilt.

Market Swine had two entries. Jacob Jung received a purple and a blue ribbon for his Crossbred Market Barrows.

Rabbit had four entries. Dora Bonen received a red ribbon on her Mini Lop Senior Doe; Grant Fischer received blue ribbons for his American Chinchilla Senior Buck and his Satin Senior Buck; and Jillian Fischer received a purple ribbon on her American Chinchilla Senior Buck.
