Thunder comes back to force tie-breaker against Aberdeen Christian

North Central Thunder volleyball had a five-set loss to Aberdeen Christian on Thursday, Sept. 12 in the Christian School Gym.

The Knights won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-23. But then the Thunder won the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-16. Aberdeen Christian came back in the tie breaker, 15-12.

Camryn Witlock was the setting leader, 147 of 149, 19 assists. NC was 194-196 in setting, with 28 assists.

Hitting was 142 of 162 for Thunder, with 35 kills. Ella Batie had 12 kills and Amree Vander Vorst had 11 kills.

Vander Vorst was 19 of 19, with three aces in serving. Witlock was 21 of 22, four aces. The team was 103 of 106, with nine aces.

The Thunder had 106 digs. Alaina Dosch had 24, Sydnee Malsam, 23 and Vander Vorst, 21.

Ella Batie had three blocks and Kaidence Bulgin had one.

The Thunder team played Mobridge/Pollock on Sept. 10 in Eureka. M/P took the win, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13.

Setting: 117 or 121, 18 assists (Sydney Bertsch 93 of 96 18 assists)

Hitting: 80 of 96, 18 kills (Amree Vander Vorst 38 of 42, 13 kills; Ella Batie 11 of 13, 4 kills)

Serving: 47 of 54, 3 aces (Vander Vorst 8 of 8, 2 aces; Lindsey Geier 9 of 11, one ace)

Digs: 66 (Vander Vorst 20, Alaina Dosch 16)

Blocks: 4 (Ella Batie 3 solo/1 assist; Kaidence Bulgin, 1 assist)

NC won the JV match.

North Central hosted a tournament on Sept. 14 in Roscoe.

Ipswich and Timber Lake won matches 2-1 over the Thunder team. McIntosh and Stanley County results were not available.

North Central were scheduled to play Langford Area on Sept. 17 on the road. Saturday, NC will play in an Ipswich Tournament. Tuesday, Sept. 24 NC will host Sully Buttes in Bowdle.
