Funeral Service for Sharron K. Swanson (78) of Sioux Falls, formerly of Ipswich, was at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2024, at the United Church of Christ, Ipswich with Pastor John Hisel officiating.

Burial was at the Ipswich City Cemetery following the funeral service.

Sharron Kathleen Swanson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.

Sharron was born March 6, 1946, to Oscar and Martha (Voegele) Jeschke of Roscoe.  She was raised on a farm northeast of town, baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1964.

Between 1964 and 1966, Sharron received her teaching certificate from Northern State College in Aberdeen.  During this time, she met the love of her life Harris M. Swanson under a Ferris wheel in Ipswich. On June 3, 1967, the two were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roscoe. They honeymooned at Yellowstone National Park.

After marriage, while Harris served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, the couple lived in Ft. Lee, Virginia and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma before he was deployed to Vietnam on March 23, 1969. Upon his return, they lived a short time in Ft. Riley, Kansas before returning to the Swanson family farm southeast of Ipswich.

During their early years on the farm, Harris and Sharron raised their four children: Sheri, Jamie, Troy and Lisa. Sharron was a loving, stay-at-home mom who always put her family first yet still devoted considerable time to helping and serving in the community.

After the children were raised, Sharron refocused on her career and renewed her teaching certificate. Initially, she worked as an educator at several Hutterite colonies in the Ipswich area. Later, she transitioned to her favorite position with the Ipswich Public School as the K-12 music teacher. She encouraged and inspired many students to sing!

Sharron enjoyed social activities and was active in Cowbells, P.E.O., and Eastern Star.  She served as the Republican Party Chair for Edmunds County, sang in the church choir, directed the UCC Bell Choir and volunteered with the Women's Fellowship. She always enjoyed coffee and therapy times with her friends. She enjoyed hosting theme parties and was the hostess with the mostest!

Her highlight was hosting nanny camp for her grandchildren in the summer. And all the grandchildren couldn't wait for summer to go to "Nanny Camp".

In the mid 1990's, "On The Point Hunting Lodge" was established by Sharron and Harris along with Jack and Diane Swanson. Over three decades, they hosted hundreds of hunters from all over the USA. Each fall, Sharron looked forward to hosting the hunters and hearing their tall tales.

As Sharron and Harris entered their retirement years, they spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz. at Sunland Springs Golf Resort.  While the fall harvest and hunting work was fun and satisfying, Sharron was always eager for the escape to the southern sunshine where they could play golf, cards and socialize with their numerous snowbird friends.

Grateful for sharing her life are her spouse Harris M. Swanson; children, Sheri Jo (Jason) Otta of Sioux Falls, Troy (Laura) Swanson of Huron, Lisa (Jeffrey) Skelton of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Dr. Jaelin (Allison) Otta, Jordan Otta, Joey (Samantha) Otta, Caitlin Swanson (fiancé Jonathon Waldner), Samantha Swanson, Lily Swanson, Jonathan Skelton, Joshua Skelton and Faith Skelton. She is also survived by her siblings Curt (Sue) Jeschke of Brandon, Collin Jeschke of Kansas City, and Tamara (Don) Neifer of Aberdeen.

Sharron was preceded in death by her son Jamie Swanson and her parents.

Schriver Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
