Caring for Ft. Meade veterans

Each year Ft. Meade veterans are able to shop for gifts for their families from items donated to a temporary gift shop. The Roscoe American Legion Auxiliary annually supports the gift shop and is asking you to do the same by donating gift items or funds for gift wrap and shipping.

Anywhere from 40-65 vets access the shop each year. When considering gift ideas, think of things you would like to receive. They can be for a man, woman or child. Sometimes the vets do not always know ages of grandchildren, so retail gift cards come in handy, especially for teens receiving gifts. Please no sharp items.

Donations will be collected through October 19 and can be left at Roscoe Hardware or given to Donna Brockel (605 287-4828) in Roscoe or Deanne Hoyle (605 380-2650) in Ipswich. They can also be taken to the smoker at the Roscoe Legion on October 19.

Items for the veterans themselves can also be donated. Suggestions include: socks, T-shirts and pullover shirts, zip up sweatshirts, sweat pants (prefer zip up legs) and personal care items. Clothing sizes from medium – XL are most common. Past donations of quilts have been used both for the veterans and in the gift shop.

The Roscoe ALA THANKS YOU for helping to care for our veterans.
