The Ipswich Cross Country girls were the champions of the Lake Region Conference meet in Ipswich on Oct. 9.
"It was a great day for the Tigers at the Lake Region Conference meet in Ipswich. The course on our GPS watches was a true 5k at 3.10 miles so we were excited to see how fast everyone ran," said IHS coach Todd Thorson.
The IHS girls topped the teams in the Womens 5,000 Meters Varsity division with 12 points. Northwestern was second with 17 followed by Warner, 22 points.
"The Warner and Northwestern girls' teams are clearly two of the best teams in the state so winning the conference was an outstanding performance for our girls," said Thorson.
Ella Boekelheide won the division at 17:43.33. Madisyn Gellhaus was second at 19:26.86.
After Gellhaus there were five IHS runners in the top-20 - Jennay Gisi fourth, Gracyn Kadlec sixth, Isabella Henderson eighth, Braelyn Holt 11th, Aubrey Crissman 13th and Olivia Kadlec 17th.
Frederick Area won the Mens 5,000 Meters Varsity race with 11 points. Ipswich boys were fourth.
Korbin Stark won the boys division at 16:52.54. Milo Sumption of Frederick Area was second.
IHS Tigers in the top-20 were Tye Pietz 10th, Ethan Wald, 15th and Tyler Gellhaus 17th.
"The boys really ran well, led by Tye Pietz, running a personal best time of 18:39," Thorson said.
The Ipswich Cross Country runners will compete in the Region 1B meet today, Oct. 16 in Webster. The varsity girls will run first at 11 a.m. followed by the varsity boys.
The runners who qualify for the State B race run on Oct. 26 in Rapid City.
