The Ipswich students will be leaving Thursday Oct. 31 for All -State Chorus and will be practicing with 900 other students for the performance on Nov. 2. The annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra event is November 1-2 in Sioux Falls.
The chorus will rehearse in the Denny Sanford Premier Center beginning on Friday morning, Nov. 1. The All-State Concert begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
IHS singers in the chorus are Savannah Coisman, Gracyn Kadlec, Bella Unser and Treyton Serverson. The alternates are Julaine Morgan, Olivia Kadlec, Shaylee Coisman and Gunnar Knittel.
The chorus conductor is Michael Hanawalt, the Associate Professor of Choral Conducting and Music Education at Florida State University, where he conducts the Chamber Choir, teaches graduate courses in conducting and choral literature, and serves as Artistic Director for the Tallahassee Community Chorus.
The orchestra conductor is Luis Viquez, Director of Orchestral Studies and Assistant Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University of Rhode Island. Prior to this, he held a seven-year tenure as the Director of Orchestral Activities Endowed Chair and Music Director of the University of South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, as well as the conductor of the University of South Dakota Opera from 2016 to 2023.

IHS choral teacher Nate Collins said the IHS students also attended the DWU All-State workshop in preparation for the event this week and got to have a taste of what the actual event is like.
