Mass of Christian Burial for Beatrice "Bea" Hein of Woodbury, Minn., (formerly of Ipswich, SD) was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Ipswich, with Fr. Timothy Cone serving as celebrant. Burial followed at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
Beatrice Schaefer was born December 7,1931, at the family farm in Hoven, to Hubert and Barbara (Kaiser) Schaefer. She graduated from Hoven High School in 1950. She continued her education and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, in 1953 with a three-year diploma degree.
Bea married John O. Hein on October 15, 1953, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven. They had met two years earlier at local dances.
Bea and John started their family and lived in various towns in South Dakota and California until John earned his degree as a funeral director. They eventually settled in Ipswich, where they started Hein Funeral Home in 1965. Bea worked at the Ipswich Community Hospital for 25 years and continued working at the funeral home with John until they sold it and retired in 2001.
Bea was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a member and president of the Legion of Mary for many years. Her passions included her sports-minded children, traveling, and especially spending time with her extended family. She was an avid card player with both friends and family and belonged to the bridge club as long as it existed. Bea also loved to sing, especially with her two sisters in three-part harmony and she also enjoyed many Sunday afternoons watching the Vikings, often in person.
In 2014, Bea moved to an assisted living facility in Woodbury, Minn. to be closer to her children. She was delighted to spend more time with her growing family. Even on the Friday of her death, she was able to spend time with family giving special attention to the four great-grandchildren who were able to be there.
Bea passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Woodbury Senior Living Center, Woodbury, Minn. at the age of 92.
Bea is survived by her three children, Mick (Renay) Hein, Randy (Barb) Hein, Barbara Neitge; daughter-in-law, Michele Sondheimer; grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Dube, Sara (Craig) Swanson, John D. Hein, Kevin (Emily) Hein, Arielle (Jace) Dispenza, Nathaniel Hein, Alex (Madi) Hein and Alana Hein as well as eight great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Ann (Paul) Nordhues; sister-in-law, Bette Schaefer; and many nieces and nephews.
