Ronald "Ron" Fuhrmann

Ronald "Ron" Fuhrmann of Oro Valley, Ariz. penned his obituary before his death of pancreatic cancer on December 5, 2024.

I was born May 17, 1946 to Pius and Carolina (Leboldus) in Hoven. Raised on the family farm near Roscoe, and attended a one-room farm school for seven years prior to going to the Roscoe Public School and graduating in 1964. Also attended Northern State College and Minneapolis School of Business.

On August 2, 1969 I married the love of my life, Ruby Martel, in Hosmer. We lived in Minneapolis, Minn. and I worked at Hennepin County. In 1971 I began my career as a Border Patrol Agent in Eagle Pass, Tex. In June 1974 I transferred to Bakersfield, Calif. In June 1979 I was promoted to Special Agent with the US Immigration & Naturalization Service in Omaha, Neb.

I enjoyed camping and water skiing with my family and always found time to take them on a special yearly vacation including a three-week Amtrak trip. I encouraged the family to take up tennis and it became a big part of the family's life. Enjoyed many years of pheasant hunting with sons and many relatives.

After retiring in August 1997, we sold our home in Omaha to go full-time RVing until December 2000 when we moved into a Del Webb retirement community in Oro Valley, Ariz. Summers would always find us back in the Aberdeen and Akaska areas learning the finer points of fishing from my best friend and classmate, Bob Malsam. I never missed a chance to take Ruby to old-time music dances which we both have enjoyed since before getting married.

I enjoyed many motorcycle trips with brother Ken, friends and nephews Tom and Ronnie Schwan which took us deep into Mexico and the Canadian Rockies.

I am grateful and blessed to have shared my life with wife, Ruby, of 55 years; sons, Christopher Fuhrmann (Jennifer Nalley and daughter Rhianna), Tucson, Ariz., Brent Fuhrmann, Rio Rico, Ariz; siblings Mathew, MaDonna, Luella, Raymond, James, Kenneth, Virginia, Marcella and many, many nieces and nephews.

Preceding me in death are my parents; siblings Anna, Helen, Magdalena and Ramona.

A celebration of life will be held in Aberdeen, June 2025. Date to be announced.
