Robert Schumacher

Robert R. Schumacher, 85, Hosmer, died Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hosmer, led by Pastor Janet Sandmeier. Interment followed at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer.

Robert Roger Schumacher, son of Emma (Graff) and Gottlieb Schumacher, was born November 28, 1939 at the Schumacher farm southeast of Hosmer in Sangamon Township. Robert attended rural school and Hosmer High School, where he played basketball and was a good track runner. Robert lived on the farm until 2019 when he relocated to the Bethesda Home in Aberdeen. He sold his cattle in 2009, however farmed for several years after.

He was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hosmer, where he served on the Council. Robert enjoyed pheasant hunting, riding horse, listening to polkas, playing cards, going to town to visit, and Banquet chicken. He was also quite musical as he was a drummer for the Schumacher Brothers Band. Robert will be remembered as a caring son and brother as he watched over his mom and his brother, Delbert, for many years.

Robert is survived by two brothers, Ivan (Arvella) Schumacher of Hosmer and Leo Schumacher of Aberdeen; in-laws, Luella Schumacher, Elaine Schumacher, Alvin Preszler, and Kenneth Kramlich; and 22 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gottlieb, on November 10, 1970; his mother, Emma, on July 25, 1993; four brothers, Herbert, Marvin, Lawrence, and Delbert; and four sisters, Viola Winkler, Mildred Preszler, Darlene Kramlich, and an infant; one niece and two nephews.

Honorary bearers were the caring staff at the Bethesda Home.

Casketbearers were nephews Kim Preszler of Hosmer; Bruce Schumacher of Dell Rapids; Bob Schumacher of Hutchinson, Minn .; Keith Schumacher of Sioux Falls; Stanley Schumacher of Aberdeen; and Greg Schumacher of Rapid City.

Musicians were Wes Schaible and Joyce Heyne. Ushers were Jimmy Mohr and Charles Wolf.
