Thunders 1-1 at Leola/Frederick Area doubleheader in Leola

North Central Thunder girls and boys played a doubleheader basketball game against Leola/Frederick Area in Leola on Jan. 14.

The NC girls had a 13-5 lead at the end the first quarter. They did not lose that lead, winning 34-22.

Amree Vander Vorst led all players with 17 points and seven rebounds. Alaina Dosch had nine points including two three-pointers. Other NC scorers were Ella Batie four, Camryn Witlock and Ava Gonska, two each.

Arabella Clark was the top scorer for the Titans with 10 points.

The NC girls had 21 rebounds, Leola-Frederick Area 28.

The L/F Titan boys had the lead in the second game, 66-21 at the final bell.

Aiden Goings had five points (one three pointer) for the Thunder boys. Other scorers were Jade Jacobs and Seth Hettick, four each; and Donovan Nelson, Kobe Wherry, Cole Beitelspacher and Trent Beyers, two points each.

Noah Kippley led the Titans with 16, followed by Ethan Petrich with 15.

The Thunder teams had a doubleheader in Ipswich on Jan. 21. They have another doubleheader at home in Eureka against Langford Area on Jan. 25. The North Central teams each played Herreid/Selby Area but on different days. The boys host the Wolverines on Jan. 23 in Eureka. Then the girls travel to Herreid on Friday, Jan. 24.
