To the Editor:
Taxpayer Dollars Wasted by our City Officials
If you’re not aware, our city officials for some reason find it necessary to rent a roll off dumpster for garbage. The dumpster was located South of the railroad tracks and was then relocated to the landfill due to “unauthorized dumping”. I questioned a council member about this move and was informed that the dumpster is to be utilized for items not authorized to be put in the landfill. When questioned by me as to why we would be mixing hazardous waste items with other unauthorized items, I was told that not all unauthorized land fill items could be put in the dumpster, yet there is no sign indicating what items are authorized in said dumpster. As it stands now, all types of garbage are being put in the dumpster, even though we just had a huge hole dug in October for that garbage! Here’s where the waste comes into play. From January 2, 2023, to September 25, 2024, the city paid $13,571.25 for the dumpster rental. This averages to around $308 per month. The charges for this dumpster over the past three years of existence that I’m aware of, could have easily bought a piece of equipment for the maintenance crew or be put towards a project loan. Time to get rid of the dumpster and maybe have a hazardous waste drop off point two to three times a year. Lets stop wasting our tax dollars.
