The North Central Thunder basketball teams faced Herreid-Selby Area Wolverines last week. The boys hosted HSA on Jan. 23 in Eureka. The next day the NC girls played the Wolverines in Herreid on Jan. 24.
HSA got the lead in the first quarter 14-9. Then NC boys took over, with 26-21 NC lead at half time. The Thunder scored 30 points in the second half, the Wolverines only 15. At the final buzzer NC was up 56-36.
Kobe Wherry led all scorers with 18 points, three three-pointers. Other NC scorers were Cole Beitelspacher with 11 points, Tim Rucker nine, Donovan Nelson eight, Zane Haar and Jade Jacobs four each, Isaiah Heilman two.
The Wolverines were led by Tatum Quaschnick with 12 points and Xavier Ritter with 11.
The Thunder had 32 rebounds.
The next day the Thunder girls got the win in Herreid, 51-45.
The squads were evenly matched – 13-13, 21-22, 35-37.
Ella Batie led the NC scoring with 17 points, followed by Amree Vander Vorst with 16. Other scorers were Alaina Dosch with 12, Tylee Vander Vorst five and Carleigh Dosch one.
The HSA girls were led by Katie Allbee with 16 and Taryn Hettick with 13.
